How
Understanding Your Personality Preferences Can be Your Recipe
for Success

There has
never been a more powerful statement for discovering our personality
type and self-understanding, than that from famous Scottish poet,
Robert Burns, when he observed "Oh God, the gift to give us,
to see ourselves, as others see us."
It would be
a powerful thing if we could see ourselves as others see us, don't
you think?
How do you
see yourself? Is it in the same way as others see you?
You'll find
the more you discover about yourself (and others) the more successful
and confident you'll feel at coping with all aspects of your life,
your career, or your business. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist
studied his clients' different personality types in depth, then
published a book in 1921 called 'Psychological Types'. He observed
his clients' personality preferences over time and found, to his
surprise, he was able to successfully predict their behavior.
We are all creatures of habit after all.
Do you know
what energizes you? How do you recharge your batteries?
Jung called
this the 'energizing scale' and noted most people would be either
introverted or extraverted. By introvert he did not mean
a very shy person, as we sometimes hear them referred to today.
On a similar note, his description of an extravert was not someone
who is a loud mouth and dances on tables. He named these two different
personality functions by the way they are energized.
In his theory
of psychological types Carl Jung drew to this conclusion:
- Extraverts
prefer to draw their energy from the outside world of people,
activities and things
- Introverts
prefer to draw their energy from inside their own head, in a
world of ideas, emotions and impressions.
